Hanson, Leopold, Kanakaris Elected to Huntley Board

Unofficial election results in McHenry and Kane counties show the three had the top votes.

A political newcomer, Nick Hanson, will join incumbents, Harry Leopold and Niko Kanakaris, on the village board, according to preliminary election results.

In McHenry County, Hanson had strong numbers and landed in the number one spot in the village’s oldest precinct, Grafton Township Precinct 1. Supporters gathered at the American Legion in downtown Huntley Tuesday evening to monitor the results.

“I feel great right now,” Hanson said Tuesday night after the results were reported. “I am anxious to start as a new Huntley trustee. It’s fantastic, as a non-incumbent, to be voted in."

A portion of Huntley, primarily Sun City Huntley, falls within Kane County. Preliminary election results from the Kane County Clerk’s office showed that with five out of five precinct reporting, Leopold, Kanakaris and Trustee Jay Kadakia won the top three spots.

But combined with the McHenry County votes, Hanson beat out Kadakia for the third slot on the board.
