Grafton Township Partners with SHARE Cooperative Food Program

Grafton residents can order food and reap considerable savings on groceries, organizers say.

Grafton Township Town Hall will now be a pickup site for the SHARE cooperative food buying program.

Grafton Township Supervisor Linda Moore said Grafton residents can order from the SHARE either in person at the township office, by phone or online, and enjoy considerable savings on groceries.

SHARE is run by a group of volunteers in McHenry, Moore said.

“The order form changes every month,” Moore said. “They have things like frozen pizzas, frozen meat, shrimp and fresh produce, which is really quite good.”

The SHARE program also has certified organic produce and convenience items, the website states. All food is purchased wholesale; none is donated.

SHARE operates similarly to a school Market Day program, but instead of giving additional revenue to the school, the savings is passed on to the consumer. The township flier states consumers can save 30 percent to 50 percent on their food purchases without the need for coupons.

SHARE is a nonprofit food-buying club that offers good, nutritious products at a reduced cost through a volunteer-run, community-based distribution system,” a township press release explained.

The program is open to anyone, and there are no membership fees or eligibility requirements.

Once area residents place their orders, township officials will drive to the McHenry site and bring back the local food orders for pickup at Grafton Township Hall, 10109 Vine St., Huntley, Moore said.

Customers can order in person from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Grafton Township offices until Wednesday, Feb. 8. Those placing orders by phone have until Thursday, Feb. 9, and should call 1-800-548-2124.

Online ordering is available until Feb. 12 at www.sharewi.org.

Customers can pay with cash, check, or Link card, the food stamp program. Credit and debit cards are accepted with online orders.

Anyone with questions may contact Linda Moore at 1-847-669-3328, or Jerry Macey, McHenry County SHARE coordinator, at 1-815-690-2606.

The February pickup for Grafton residents will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Feb. 25, at Grafton Township Hall.
