Morkes Chocolates: Tastefully Good Gifts

Algonquin store is stocked full of chocolate goodies and gifts.

When all else fails during your shopping excursions, just think chocolate.

One step through the door of Morkes Chocolates in Algonquin, and suddenly you’ll go from not knowing what to buy to having a hard time deciding which item to buy.

Whether it’s the dress pumps — offered in white chocolate or dark chocolate — that look like real women’s shoes, or the gigantic chocolate Santa Claus, Morkes is the perfect destination for the season. The store even has Seasons Greetings plaques, in all sizes and designs, made entirely from chocolate.

One stocking-stuffer favorite: A bag of what appears to be tiny rocks, but are actually cleverly coated chunks of chocolate. Won’t kids be surprised when they are told they can eat those rocks? Also available, chocolate pops on a stick with penguin, snowman and snowflake designs.

Owner Claudia Kendzior said customers stop by to find gifts for teachers, co-workers, and as stocking stuffers as well.

“I think people are still very cost-conscious,” Kendzior said. “They can come in here and find something, and they know they’re not going to break the bank.”

What’s selling this season? Gift baskets, Kendzior said.

“The gift baskets are selling very well, and we have every size from $10.95 up to $85,” Kendzior said.
