Union Man Held on $30,000 Bail

Man arrested in bomb threat remains in McHenry County jail following weekend incident.

A Union man remained in the McHenry County jail Tuesday on $30,000 bail in a bomb threat incident in Huntley Saturday.

Derek M. Habbley, 25, of 10215 Ridge Lane, Union, is charged with felony disorderly conduct, Class 3 felony, police said. 

Habbley reportedly made threats to his cell phone company Saturday afternoon and claimed he had a bomb in the parking lot of Huntley High School, 13719 Harmony Road. He gave a description of himself and his car to the cellular service provider, according to reports.

Huntley police responded to the scene and found Habbley, who later admitted to making threats.

Huntley High School was evacuated and residents nearby were asked to leave their homes during the investigation. The Kane County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Unit also responded to the scene.

Police said Habbley, a former Huntley High student, was mad at his cellular phone company.
