Two Charged in Vehicle Theft Cases

Police think suspects may have taken cars because they needed a ride somewhere.

A Huntley man suspected in a series of car burglaries was arrested Sunday and charged with attempting to steal another vehicle from the parking lot of Marty’s Automotive, 10751 Wolf Drive, police said.

Christopher R. Brown, 24, of 14101 Hemmingsen Road, and a second man, Paul R. Soky, 22, address unknown, are each charged with attempted theft and two counts of unlawful possession of stolen motor vehicle, a Class 2 felony.

According to reports, the two entered an unlocked 1987 GMC pick-up truck with the keys in the ignition and attempted to drive away. The owner of the vehicle exited the building and stopped Brown and Soky from leaving, police said.

The two were arrested and police learned they were involved in a theft of a motor vehicle in January in Huntley, according to reports.  In that case, they reportedly stole a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe.

Detectives also discovered that Brown was involved with the theft of five vehicles reported stolen from various locations on Feb. 20, according to police.

All the cars Brown reportedly took were recovered and no damage was reported so police speculate he was taking the cars as a means of transportation.

Brown may face additional charges.

Both Brown and Soky were transported to McHenry County Corrections to await bond call.
