Teen Thrown From Bike, Injured in Wednesday Crash

The accident happened at 5:53 p.m. at the intersection of Westport Ridge and Ackman Road in Crystal Lake.

A 17-year-old girl was injured Wednesday evening after being hit by a vehicle while biking across Ackman Road near Westport Ridge in Crystal Lake, according to a Crystal Lake Police Department press release. 

The girl, whose name was being withheld as police confirm her identity and notify her family, was taken by Flight-for-Life helicopter to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Police said her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. 

The accident occurred at 5:53 p.m. when a 2006 Lexus, which police said had the right-of-way, collided with the bicyclist, who had been traveling south on Westport Ridge before entering the intersection. The teen was thrown from her bicycle and was driven over by the vehicle. 

The driver, Emily Schlimm, 20, of Lakewood, was traveling east on Ackman Road at the time of the crash. No citations have been issued at this time and the crash remains under investigation. 
 
Traffic was diverted on Ackman Road Between Crimson Drive and Golf Course Road for about 2.5 hours as emergency crews assisted and police investigated the scene.
