Hampshire police discovered skeletal remains Friday while searching for a woman missing since May, authorities said.

Kathey Wilk, 52, of 1731 Cameron Drive, was reported missing on May 7 by her brother. Hampshire police have been searching for her and were doing a follow up search early Friday when the skeletal remains were found in a heavily wooded area behind 1811 Cameron Drive in Hampshire, according to a press release.

The property behind the house is outside the village limits so Kane County Sheriff’s office investigators have begun a death investigation.

Authorities have not been able to identity the remains but are hoping to use Wilk’s dental records to try to make a positive identification, according to the release.

No cause of death has been determined. Wilk has a history of prior suicide attempts and Hampshire Police did locate a note inside her residence when she was initially reported missing, authorities said.

The case remains under investigation by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.  Hampshire Police are working closely with sheriff detectives.
