Rutland Township Man Arrested After Threatening Family with Gun

Man faces gun charges in weekend incident.

A 57-year-old Rutland Township man reportedly threatened his family with a gun, and struck his wife with a handgun, during an incident early Saturday morning at the couple’s home, Kane County Sheriff’s Deputies said.

David Hagen, 40W815 Big Timber Road, Rutland Township, is charged with felony unlawful restraint, two felony counts of aggravated domestic battery, three misdemeanor counts of aggravated assault and two misdemeanor counts of domestic battery, according to reports.

He reportedly threatened to shoot his wife and adult stepson, then hit his wife on the head with the handgun, deputies said.

Hagen’s bond was set at $500,000, deputies said.

Kane County Sheriff’s police, assisted by area police departments including Huntley, Hampshire and Pingree Grove, responded to the home around 12:10 am. Hagan’s family was able to get out of the residence while police were on the way, but Hagan remained in the home with the gun, reports stated.

Police set up a perimeter around the property and shut down Big Timber Road between Powers Road and Manning Road, deputies said.

About 45 minutes later, police made contact with Hagen and convinced him to come out of the home, reports stated.

Deputies seized a handgun and five rifles along with several hundred rounds of ammunition, according to reports.

Hagen’s wife was transported to Provena Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin and treated for non life-threatening injuries, deputies said.
