Police: Man Uses Screwdriver as Weapon, Steals Purse at Algonquin Commons

The Algonquin Police Department provided the following information in a Saturday press release.

The Algonquin Police Department responded to the Algonquin Commons parking lot for the report of a robbery that just occurred.

It was reported that the suspect threatened a female victim with an unknown weapon, which was later discovered to be a screwdriver, and demanded the victim’s purse.

The suspect then fled the scene in a white Toyota Camry. The victim was uninjured and was able to provide officers with a partial license plate number from the suspect’s vehicle.

A short time later, an alert off-duty Algonquin police officer observed a vehicle matching that description on Algonquin Road. The officer followed the vehicle, called 911, and Lake in the Hills Police Officers responded to detain the vehicle in a gas station parking lot.

After a positive identification, the suspect was taken into custody by Algonquin Police officers.

The suspect is identified as 19 year old Andy K. Lopez-Carbajal whose last known address was in Woodstock, IL. He was charged with armed robbery, a class X felony. The stolen purse was recovered in his vehicle.

These charges are merely an accusation and the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
