A 49-year-old man who died Sunday in a drowning in Pistakee Lake has been identified as William L. Trybula of Melrose Park, according to the McHenry County Cornier's Office. Preliminary findings from an autopsy revealed that Trybula's cause of death was consistent with a drowning. The man, whose name is not currently being released, decided to take a swim in rough waters while out boating with friends, according to the Daily Herald.
Rescuers were called to the scene at 3:48 p.m. after the friends were not able to locate the victim, according to the news release.
Just before rescuers were about to dive into the lake, the victim came to the surface, according to the Daily Herald. He was unconscious and unresponsive, and as rescuers grabbed for him, their boat capsized, according to the article.
The man was recovered at 4:32 p.m. and taken to Centegra McHenry Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 5:05 p.m.
