The cause of death of a 24-year-old Lake in the Hills man found dead in a vehicle in rural Boone County remains under investigation.

Kevin Zent was found in the vehicle at 8:35 a.m on Monday on Spring Center Road 1/4-mile south of Shattuck Road in Belvidere in rural Boone County, according to a Boone County Sheriff’s Office press release.

A man living in the area reported the death after finding Zent alone in the vehicle Monday morning. That same man noticed the vehicle in the area a day earlier and called it in as a suspicious vehicle, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

Zent—a 2006 graduate of Jacobs High School—worked in maintenance at Sam’s Club, according to his Facebook page. On Sunday, Zent’s girlfriend posted a message asking anyone who had been with or seen Zent to contact her. She posted a similar message again on Monday.

The cause of Zent’s death has not yet been determined. An autopsy was performed Tuesday and "the result was inconclusive pending toxicology results," according to an e-mail from Boone County Coroner Rebecca Wigget.

Anyone with information into the death can contact the Booune County Sheriff’s Office at 815-546-5147 or Crime Stoppers at 815-547-7867.

Police have identified a man found dead Monday in his car as 24-year-old Kevin R. Zent of Lake in the Hills, the Rockford Register Star reports.

Zent's car was found on Spring Center Road south of Shattuck Road. Boone County Coroner Rebecca A. Wigget said preliminary autopsy results released Tuesday were inconclusive, the article stated. Toxicology tests, which typically takes several weeks, could determine whether Zent suffered a drug overdose.

"That same man noticed the vehicle in the area a day earlier and called it in as a suspicious vehicle, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office." Why didn't the police respond to check out the suspicious vehicle? If they did, what did they find? Just wondering...

Real nice guy but had a drug problem history. He's been clean for a while. If drug related I hope they find the source. The provider must have been local to the area he was found in.

@Steve - My thoughts exactly. I've known Kevin for a few years, but known the family for many more. Yes, he's had some trouble in the past, but was doing well and trying to get his life back in order. Such a wonderful guy and always had a smile on his face. My thoughts and prayers go out to his entire family and girlfriend. RIP Kevin. You will be missed by all who knew you.
