Crew members performed various tasks including:

  • Collecting 290 bags of garbage
  • Cleaned 175 miles of roadway and easements
  • Painting guardrails
  • Recycling several hundred gallons of old paint for the Environmental Protection Agency through Marengo Township
  • Tree and brush removal

Additionally, the crew helped to set up and break down for both Milk Days and the Big Hat Rodeo. The job entailed installing and removal of several hundred yards of snow fencing and T-posts, moving picnic tables, garbage cans, and trash pick-up after events, according to the release.

Inmates participating in the program also worked with the City of Wonder Lake Chamber of Commerce to clean up the city parks and streets after the Fourth of July celebration.

The last location the Road Crew worked was at the McHenry County Treasurer’s Office where the program assisted with a landscaping detail. The work included removing several yards of sod, soil, and installing crushed limestone, aggregate and flagstone for a new walkway to the back entrance, the release stated.

The Inmate Road Crew program is just one of the Sheriff’s Office Inmate Worker Programs. Corrections Officers supervise workers and ensure the workers and community are safe while assisting the communities.
