Investigation Continues Into Fatal Hit and Run

John D. Fennessy, 22, of Algonquin was killed in the crash that occurred on Oct. 1.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office is continuing to ask for the public's help with any information surrounding a fatal hit and run crash that occurred in unincorporated Cary on Oct. 1.

John D. Fennessy, 22, 609 S. Hubbard St. in Algonquin, was killed in the incident, which occurred around 3:29 a.m. on Oct.1.

Fennessy was walking in the 600 block of East Main Street, west of Newbold Road heading to meet friends at the CVS near Route 14 and Main Street in Cary, said McHenry County Sheriff's Undersheriff Andrew Zinke.

He was hit by a vehicle traveling east on Main Street, according to a sheriff's office press release. That vehicle then left the scene.

A second vehicle also hit Fennessy. That driver was not cited and called officials, according to the Northwest Herald.

The sheriff's office has made no arrests but has some leads, which have helped investigators piece together a possible suspect vehicle description, Zinke said.

The vehicle is believed to be a 1995 to 1999 Chevrolet Caviler Z24. There were also pieces of the vehicle left at the scene, which aided in putting together the possible vehicle description, Zinke said.

The traffic crash is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit. Anyone information regarding the investigation is asked to call the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office at 815-338-2144, or Crime Stoppers at 800-762-STOP (7867).
