Huntley Man Sentenced to 40 Years for Beating Death of Girlfriend

A 45-year-old former Huntley man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for beating his girlfriend so badly in their Huntley home she ended up later dying at an area hospital from injuries sustained during the attack, according to a McHenry County State's Attorney press release. 

A McHenry County jury in November found Robert Signorile guilty of first-degree murder in the beating death of his girlfriend, Michelle Mathieu, according to the press release. 

In March 2012, emergency personnel responded to the couple's Sun City in Huntley where they found Mathieu lying face down in vomit and unconscious, according to the Northwest Herald. 

When emergency crews found her, Mathieu had six fractured ribs, a fractured vertebra and subdural hematoma, which is a collection of blood on the surface of the brain. 

She was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin for emergency surgery, according to the news release. She died six days later at the hospital, according to the Northwest Herald. 

Signorile said Mathieu's injuries were caused by her falling, according to the news release. 

Physicians who cared for Mathieu said the injuries were consistent with physical assault and the state's attorney release said evidence at trial showed Signorile had an extensive history of abusing Mathieu.
