Residents React To Deadly Sun City Fire

Witnesses said a small crowd gathered Friday morning and watched in shock as a Sun City home went up in flames. Many Sun City residents said they are saddened by the tragedy.

Sun City residents said they are saddened after a man died in a house fire Friday morning. According to witnesses, after hearing the comotion, a small crowd gathered in front of the home and watched in shock as it went up in flames.

Bob Smock, a neighbor of the man who died, said his wife, Marlyn Smock, was taking a walk with their dog when she heard a beeping noise coming from down the street. He said as she approached the home she saw smoke billowing out and recogonzied the beeping noise as a fire alarm. Immediately she ran to a home nearby and had them call 911.

Another witness said he got to the scene as about seven firefighters began kicking down the front door and "were all screaming and yelling at each other." One witness said the man could be heard yelling from his bedroom at the time of the fire.

Hours after the fire, several Sun City residents stopped by the home to see the damage. Many still stood gazing in shock.

"It's just a shame," one resident said. "Nobody should have to die this way."
