Consolidated School District 158 officials could not comment on the arrest of a Huntley High School teacher charged with a theft at the school, but police released additional information about her Sept. 14 arrest.

Kimberlee Hoffmann, 42, of 1004 Kerim Court, Marengo, is charged with theft of lost or mislaid property in connection with a theft at the high school, 13719 Harmony Road, on Sept. 5.

Huntley Police Deputy Chief Todd Fulton said the charge of theft of mislaid or lost property is for cases where property is found and not returned to the owner.

According to Huntley police, the victim placed her iPod Touch and Motorola Atrix cell phone down while in the bathroom at the school and forgot to pick up the items when she left.

When she remembered that she forgot the items, she went back to the bathroom and the items were missing, reports stated.

During an investigation, police learned Hoffmann entered the bathroom after the victim and found the items, which she allegedly took, police said.

Detectives were able to trace the items to Hoffmann using the phone’s GPS and spoke with her on September 10 about the incident, reports stated.

Hoffmann had several days to turn in the items into the office, which she didn’t do before being confronted by police, according to reports. The items were later returned but the victim’s music and photos were deleted from the devices, police said.

Huntley police said Hoffmann is a cheerleading coach but could not comment on her current employment status with District 158. District 158 officials would only confirm she is an employee.

However, Huntley High School’s website indicates Hoffman is a Special Education teacher. She started teaching at District 158 in 1999. Hoffman graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1992 with a degree in Special Education. She also earned a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education, according to the site.

Hoffmann has an October McHenry County court date.
