Harvard Police Officer Named 'Officer of the Year'

Officer Dean Burton, from the Harvard Police Department, was named Officer of the Year on Saturday by the McHenry County Chief of Police Association.

A Harvard police officer was named Officer of the Year after he administered CPR on a unresponsive man who was not breathing. 

Officer Dean Burton was selected from a distinguished group of 10 area police officers as the McHenry County Chiefs of Police Association's "2013 Officer of the Year," according to a news release. 

The Chiefs of Police Association honored the 10 nominees at its holiday reception held on Jan. 11. 

Burton received the award for his actions in saving the life of a young man whom he found unresponsive and not breathing. Burton initiated CPR and the man's pulse returned, the news release stated.

Burton was credited by medical staff for saving the young man’s life.
