Hampshire Man Injured in Single-Vehicle Crash

McHenry County Sheriff's deputies report victim transferred to Condelle Medical Center by Flight for Life.

A Hampshire man, Harold E. Wiese Jr., 45, was listed in stable condition suffering from head injuries he sustained in a single-vehicle crash on Route 47, half a mile north of Vanderkarr Road in Hebron, on Monday, authorities said.

Wiese was driving a 1981 Volkswagon pickup southbound on Route 47 when he drove off the roadway into a ditch at 2:13 p.m. He was the only occupant and he was wearing a seat belt, according to McHenry County Sheriff’s office reports.

He was transported to Centegra Woodstock Hospital by Hebron/Alden Fire Protection District and was later transferred to Condell Medical Center by Flight for Life due to head trauma injuries, sheriff’s deputies said.

The Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Investigations Unit responded and assisted with the investigation of the traffic crash. Wiese was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, improper lane usage and no insurance, deputies said. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
