Firefighters Fight House Blaze; Family Safe

The Huntley Fire Protection District along with almost 20 area departments responded to a house fire Monday night southeast of Huntley.

Updated 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24

Close to 20 area fire departments were called to assist with a house fire on Huntley Road, just southeast of Huntley.

The fire started at about 6 p.m. Monday in an older home, a portion of which was built in the 1800s, Huntley Fire Captain David Eeg said. The occupants of the residence, located on the north side of Huntley Road just before St. Mary Catholic Church, were home when the fire started.

Eeg estimated there were four family members in the house when the blaze ignited. All made it out safely, he said.

Due to the extensive damage from the fire, the house is now uninhabitable, he said.

The house sits in front of the Huntley Equine and Small Animal Clinic, located at 39W596 Huntley Rd. The clinic and animals were not harmed by the blaze.

As of Tuesday morning, friends and workers were carrying personal belongings out of the burnt house.

Area fire departments on Monday night brought in water tankers to fight the fire as there are no fire hydrants in the open farmland area, which is located in Kane County. Some departments sent more than one vehicle to help with the effort to extinguish the fire, Eeg said.

Fire officials and an investigator were at the scene all night working to determine the cause of the blaze. More information about the investigation should be forthcoming, Eeg said.
