Offender flees to Rockford where he eludes police.

An unknown offender struck a cab driver in the neck with an object and stole his cab along with cash Wednesday morning, police said.

The cab driver told police he picked up a fare in Hoffman Estates and was on the way to Rockford when the offender asked him to stop at Prime Outlet Mall, 11800 Factory Shops Boulevard, round 9:26 a.m., according to reports.

After the cab driver pulled into the north end of the parking lot, the offender struck him, pushed him out of the cab and fled, police said.

The victim suffered puncture wounds to his neck and was transported to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, police said.

Huntley police alerted area police agencies through the Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network. Police were able to find the cab in Rockford where police found the cab abandoned. The offender fled the scene, according to police.

Huntley investigators responded to Rockford to process any forensic evidence and retrieve the cab. The investigation is ongoing.
