This week marks National Police Week, which recognizes the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers throughout the country.
It’s also a good time to learn about the people behind the badge in your local police department. Huntley police department has geographical beats and four sergeants are assigned to handle the areas and officers.
Huntley Patch’s Behind the Badge profiled area sergeants this week.
Today, Sgt. Kevin Hillner is profiled. He is the Area #4 Sergeant:
Hillner has been in law enforcement for 30 years. He began his police career with the Carpentersville Police Department in 1980, graduating from the Illinois State Police Academy in Springfield Ill.
He has been with the Huntley Police Department since 1989 and was promoted to sergeant in July 1998 as the first Sergeant promoted by the then newly formed Huntley Police and Fire Commission.
A graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, Hillner has served in different roles with Huntley police. He has been evidence custodian, truck weight enforcement officer and records division supervisor. He is trained as a gang enforcement officer, truck weight enforcement officer, and certified breath alcohol instrument operator.
Hillner also formed and coordinated the first Citizens Police Academy in 2007.
Off duty, Hillner has his private pilot license and began flying in 1986. Additionally, he enjoys hunting and fishing.
