Opinion: Chicago Bulls Verus Miami Heat Makes for Good Sports

Even someone who knows little about sports can appreciate the Bulls' playoff efforts.

I am not avid sports fan. I am not a sports writer. I am not fully educated about any type of sport.

The beauty of sports, though, is you can still get caught up in the excitement of watching a sporting event _ especially if it’s any Chicago team _ and appreciate the dramatic stories behind the sport.

Remember the Chicago Bulls string of World Championships in the early 1990s? Of course you do. I was in college back then and coming home from school in May to watch a Bulls game became an annual tradition. When they won, it just started the summer off with a cherry on top.

I haven’t followed the Bulls or basketball much since then. I do know about the Lebron James saga and why no one in Ohio likes him. I know a bit about Joakim Noah, whose name for some reason I always want to pronounce in Spanish because it kinda looks like Joaquin. I know many of the Bulls have been injured this season.

And I know enough to be excited about the playoff games between the Bulls and the Miami Heat. What I’ve heard is the Bulls are underdogs because all of its stars have been injured.

Here’s where the drama kicks in, watching a team of players who otherwise wouldn’t get much attention beat a team of celebrity athletes who have gotten too big for their shorts. The Miami Heat and its players seem to represent everything that is wrong with a game that revolves around who has the highest pay check while the Bulls’ current line up helps bring back the joy of watching talented, down to earth athletes play a good game.

The Bulls beating the Heat by 93-86 is good sports, whether or not you are a sports fan.

Go Bulls!
