Jean Weems, Assistant to Kane County Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay, Dies

Announcement comes through e-mail to board members.

It was a shock Monday when someone sent along an e-mail saying that Jean Weems had died.

I have no details, but we'll share any information as becomes available.

If you'd ever visited County Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay, you met with Jean. She was clearly so competent, so throughly kind and in-the-know, that the office of the County Board chairman and the Kane County Board as a whole was enhanced by her presence.

The e-mail described her as "the glue that held together the County Board Office."

"It is our sad duty to inform you that Jean Weems, executive assistant to County Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay, has passed away," the e-mail said. "Jean had been a Kane County employee for over 17 years. Her hard work, dedication and commitment to her job was well-known by everyone.

"Jean will be dearly missed.

"As soon as we know more about funeral or memorial services, we will let you know."

Jean was a treasure to the county and will be sorely missed. She was the ultimate professional and working with her was a pleasure.

Rick, you used the two words I would have to describe Jean: "thoroughly kind." Jean was one of the nicest people I've ever met, and was always a pleasure to deal with. I can't imagine the county offices without her...her kindness and her gentle spirit will be missed.

I covered Kane County for a local newspaper for three years. Jean was always kind, always professional and always a pleasure to see. My sincere condolences to her family and everyone who will miss her.
