Baby Jakey was born with Severe Combined Immune Deficiency, the most severe of the primary immune deficiency diseases. In cases of SCID, babies are born without the necessary T-cells that fight off infection. Without treatment a child will die by his first or second birthday.

In May, Jakey underwent a bone-marrow transplant thanks to a generous, anonymous marrow donor. Jakey responded well to the transplant, and doctors considered the procedure a success. However, time is required for an infant's body to fully absorb the transplanted T-cells, and Jakey - who had been incredibly strong and resilient throughout the treatment process - came down with a viral infection and passed away Tuesday night.

Allison and Chris, my deepest condolences to you and your family. Jake was a beautiful and strong little boy. I was touched and amazed by how you and your extended family kept a 24-hour watch by Jakey's side these past several months. While his time was short on this earth, I know you gave Jakey all the love and care imaginable - Stephanie Price
