Lake, McHenry Counties Under Winter Weather Advisory

winter weather advisory has been issued for McHenry and Lake Counties until 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The advisory, which will take effect at midnight, warns residents of the potential for snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches

The snow will peak in intensity between 4 and 8 a.m. Wednesday, at the height of rush hour.

According to the National Weather Service, the "snow will result in treacherous traveling conditions for the Wednesday morning rush hour, with snowfall rates of one-half to 1 inch per hour possible with the most intense snow."

Officials added that the cold temperatures "will make regular, non-treated road salt less effective, with cold temperatures resulting in snow immediately accumulating on roadways."
