Huntley Youth Football’s “Tackle for Pink” Helps Young Cancer Patient

The team will present a donation to Matthew Erickson, a Huntley toddler who is battling brain cancer.

Huntley Youth Football’s new president, Ron Ricciardi, understands what families of pediatric cancer patients go through.

His younger brother died 11 years ago after a three year fight against pediatric cancer. Ricciardi was his brother’s caretaker along with their mother.

Ricciardi went on to play pro ball but left to coach children, sharing life lessons that stretch beyond the playing time on the field.

One lesson is reaching out to help others. Riccardi created “Huntley Tackle for Pink” to raise awareness of pediatric cancer and to help families in the community. "Huntley Tackle for Pink" raised donations and will be presenting the gift to the first recipient, Matthew Erickson, a 2-year-old who has been battling brain cancer for most of his life.

The Erickson Family along with Matthew will be given the donation in person this weekend, during the Flyweight Bowl at 12 p.m. Saturday. October 26 at Marlowe Middle School, 9625 Haligus Road. Lake in the Hills.
