Tollway, Local Currency Exchanges Work Together to Make Updating I-Pass Info Easier

Lapsed information can lead to violations. New initiative reminds customers to update license plate information on their I-PASS accounts.

The Illinois Tollway and Community Currency Exchange Association of Illinois plans to work together to educate I-PASS customers about the need to update information on their I-PASS accounts. The joint initiative will help Tollway customers save time, avoid headaches and, most of all, save money by keeping their I-PASS account information current.

Beginning this month, more than 400 Chicago area Currency Exchanges will place eye-catching stickers on packaging for vehicle license plates alerting customers to update any new vehicle information on their I-PASS accounts.  Also, customers seeking to renew their vehicle registration will be provided with cards notifying them to add any new information to their account.

“We are focused on finding new and creative ways to reach our customers with important information that makes their lives easier,” Illinois Tollway Executive Director Kristi Lafleur said.  “Neighborhood Currency Exchanges are ideal places to help us reach I-PASS customers when they’re already thinking about their vehicle information.”

The effort being launched with the Community Currency Exchange Association of Illinois is part of a larger customer awareness campaign by the Tollway to help improve I-PASS account management and reduce violations incurred by I-PASS customers, saving them time and money.  In 2011, the “Update Your Account.  It’s Easy.” campaign helped reduce violations for I-PASS customers by more than 17 percent.

“This is another great service that we can offer our customers in the neighborhoods we serve,” said John Iberl, president of the Community Currency Exchange Association. “We’re pleased to be working with the Illinois Tollway to make it easy for I-PASS customers to get a full range of vehicle license services all in one convenient location.”

Each year, the Tollway sends more than 700,000 violation notices to I-PASS customers who have not updated their account information.  In addition to keeping their license plate information current, customers are urged to update their address, contact and credit card information, as well as add funds to their account, if necessary.
