Sun City Concert Band Awards Scholarships in Memory of Its Band Members

Three scholarships were recently awarded to Huntley High School students.

The Sun City Concert Band Instrumental Music Scholarship is in its third year. This instrumental music scholarship is dedicated to all members of the Sun City Concert Band who have passed away since our band’s inception as we continue to remember them for their devotion to music and their contribution to our concert band.

This year's scholarships are dedicated to Angelo 'Skip' Desiderio who was an integral part of not only the Sun City Concert Band but also the "Let's Dance!" Big Band.

The purpose of the scholarship is to assist a Huntley High School student in acquiring enhanced instrumental music training. The applicants for this scholarship must be in good academic standing, must have demonstrated proficiency on a musical instrument, and must desire enhanced musical training from a band/music camp and/or through individualized instruction.

The applicants must also desire to continue the study of music upon high school graduation.

This year we were fortunate to be able to give away three scholarships in the amount of $500 each. This year’s recipients were Charlotte Skala (given a special Let's Dance Scholarship for 'Jazz'), Pierce Cordel, and Zoe Detlof. All three are in the Huntley High School band program under the direction of Nick Konwerski.

The three students, awarded this scholarship at the 5th Annual Festival of Music, were given special recognition at the recent Sun City Concert Band Spring concert.
