Route 47 Traffic Alert: Crews Try to Beat Winter

The Illinois Department of Transportation continues paving work this week.

The Illinois Department of Transportation continues trying to get as much work  as possible done on Route 47 before winter, which means crews will be out in force this week.

“We are still pushing to have all four lanes open to traffic before the winter and complete the miscellaneous work in the spring,” IDOT spokesman Guy Tridgell said.

Crews may be out working for a few more weeks or another month but IDOT can't say when it will wrap up for the season. “We don’t have an exact date at this time largely because much of the remaining work is weather dependent,” he said.

IDOT extended the contract on the Route 47 project, which calls for the widening and repaving of the roadway from Kreutzer to Reed Reed, to next spring. The project had been scheduled for completion this year.

“It will not be a finished product but what we will have is four lanes of traffic open,” Tridgell said. “It may look a little rough around the edges.”

This week, the pavement work on Algonquin Road will continue. As usual, expect long delays.
