Power Outage Continues in The Region

A majority of Huntley customers have had power restored.

For residents who are still without power following Monday's "derecho," a short, violent windstorm, power has been restored to more than 70 percent of ComEd's customers, but it still may take a few more days to get everyone back on the line.

About 166 Huntley customers were without out power Tuesday and Huntley village officials were awaiting an update Wednesday afternoon from ComEd. A majority of the village, including downtown business, had power restored Tuesday afternoon.

ComEd estimates that 90 percent will be restored by noon on Thursday, and 99 percent will have electricity by midnight Friday.

As of 8 a.m. Wednesday, ComEd has restored power to 675,000 customers.

Still, 193,000 customers, or nearly 30 percent, have been without power for more than 48 hours. Residents in neighboring Lake in the Hills continued to be in the dark, including a food pantry that had to throw away food.

Most of those customers are in the northwest region where 125,000 are still without power.

A spokesman for ComEd said there were 700 crews in the field working to restore power coming from as far as Florida, Alabama and Pennsylvania.
