Kane County Cops Seize $2.1M in Heroin

Sheriff's Office believes it's one of the county's largest heroin seizures. Arrest resulted in traffic stop in Elgin.

Kane County Sheriff’s deputies seized about $2.1 million of heroin from a Texas woman during a routine traffic stop in Elgin Monday, authorities said.

It is believed to be the county's largest heroin seizure in its history, Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez said, in a press release.

This is a major seizure of heroin, Perez said. Heroin has been problem in the suburbs for the last few years and this large amount _ seven kilograms_ would have most likely made its way into the suburban and Kane County drug market, he said. The seizure hopefully will choke off some of the supply of the highly addictive and deadly narcotic, Perez said.

Sheriff’s deputies made the traffic stop at Route 25 and Luda Street in Elgin Monday, reports stated. The driver, later identified as Claudia Chagoya, 41, of El Paso, failed to signal and did not have a driver’s license, deputies said.

The deputy had reason to believe the driver was transporting drugs and searched the vehicle and found a hidden compartment where the drugs were found, according to reports.
