Huntley Gets Green, Clean This Weekend

A full schedule of events around Huntley geared toward going green and cleaning up the environment.

 

It’ll be a Green and Clean Day in Huntley this weekend with lots of events for families to enjoy.

The Village of Huntley, Huntley Area Public Library, Huntley Park District and Culver’s of Huntley are joining together Saturday, April 28 to provide green events and activities throughout the village.

There will be lots of events to chose from, including the opportunity to safely dispose of their medications or get rid of all that paper in their homes at a paper drive. Kids can learn about the environment by watching "Disney's Earth" film or enter a coloring contest.

National Take Back Day Medication Disposal Event

10 a.m.—1 p.m.

Huntley Police Department, 10911 Main St.

Drop off unused medications at the Huntley Police Department.

 

Take a tour of the West Wastewater Treatment Plant

9 a.m.—1 p.m.

Tour the plant on West Main Street. The tours take about an hour.

 

Spring Cleaning Drop Off Day

8 a.m.-1 p.m.

East Main Street and Donald Drive

Clean out your basement/garage and drop off items at the dumpsters located at Public Works at East Main Street & Donald Drive. Volunteers will be available to assist.

 

Culver's Kids Coloring Contest

Kids, be sure to pick up a coloring sheet at these locations:

  • Culver's Huntley, 13240 Illinois 47
  • Huntley Village Hall, 10987 Main St.
  • Huntley Library, 11000 Ruth Road
  • Huntley Park District, 12015 Mill St.

The coloring sheets are available until April 27. Bring back your best coloring work back to Culvers of Huntley between this week to get a free scoop! (No purchase necessary)

 

“Disney’s Earth” screening

3-4:30 p.m.

Cosman Cultural Center, 12015 Mill St.

Come watch the story of adventure starring three animal families on a journey across our planet -polar bears, elephants and whales will be shown at the Huntley Park District’s Cosman Theater. This free family film is sure to take your breath away! Concessions will be available for purchase.

 

Green & Clean Drop-In Crafts

11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Huntley Area Public Library, 11000 Ruth Road

Kids can create green crafts at the library.

 

Huntley Library Paper Drive

9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Huntley Area Public Library, 1100 Ruth Road

Recycle your newspapers (no phone books or cardboard please) at the drive. Containers will be located in the library’s parking lot. Volunteers will be on hand to help.

 

Adopt-A-Highway

All day

Groups will be cleaning up their assigned roadways. There are still several sections of roadway available for adoption, see the Village’s websitefor available sites and to apply.
