Downed Tree Forces Detour on Coyne Station Road

Downed tree causes closure.

Coyne Station Road remained closed Tuesday due to a huge oak tree caught up in electrical power lines.

A ComEd employee monitored the situation but said it is not a high priority for ComEd due to the large number of people who were without power. An estimated 300,000 people were without power as of Tuesday afternoon, according to news reports. The ComEd employee said the Coyne Road power line was affecting only a few households, so it is not a high priority.

However, it was affecting traffic. Motorists were forced to turn back on the road and use alternate routes.

Grafton Township Supervisor Linda Moore said the township has the equipment to remove the tree, but it is a complicated situation because the oak tree is lying on electrical wires.

She came upon the downed tree on her way to work Monday morning. Moore directed traffic away from the area before heading to work. The Grafton Township office did not have power as of Tuesday morning.
