Huntley Area Public Library Awards Reading is SWEET Grand Prizes

Over 3700 local residents participated in this year's Summer Reading Adventure at the Huntley Area Public Library.

Over 3700 local residents participated in this year’s Summer Reading Adventure at the Huntley Area Public Library. Nearly 50% of the children that registered for the “Reading is SWEET!” program reached level 5 and complete it.

Chesak Elementary School had the largest percentage of children sign-up and finish the summer-long program.  They will receive a plaque listing them as the library’s 2011 summer reading champions.

An outstanding 12,298 hours of reading were totaled up throughout an active summer of fun-filled events, an increase of 3.26% over the 11,896 logged last year.

Readers that completed the program were entered into a grand prize drawing for one of two waterpark vacations. Our winners were Katie Ostrem, age 12 who won a trip to Key Lime Cove Indoor Waterpark Resort in Gurnee and Ayush Agarwal, age 11 who took home a trip to CoCo Key Water Resort in Rockford.

Our young adult reading program enjoyed its largest number of entrants with 384. Teens were offered a program titled “Books R’ Brain Candy” that combined the challenge of reading for 20 hours over the summer with a horror aspect including zombies.

Congratulations to our Grand Prize winners, Chesak Elementary School and all participants in our reading programs that found out that Reading is most definitely SWEET at the Huntley Area Public Library.
