Sun City Hosting Spring Showcase

Sun City plays host to 3,000 visitors for the biannual showcase held in the fall and spring. This spring, the showcase features 140 vendors, said Jamie Breeden, communication coordinator.

“We have landscaping (companies), insurance, travel, Realtors and home-improvement” vendors, Breeden said.

The showcase, held at Prairie Lodge, 12880 Del Webb Blvd., Huntley, is free and open to the public. It draws people from across the region including DeKalb, Breeden said.

Breeden said that a total of 40 raffle prizes will be awarded throughout the day.

This year, there are two grand prizes, Breeden said.  Anyone can enter a raffle to win two round-trip tickets to any domestic destination from Chicago Rockford International Airport in Rockford or a certificate for a hot-air balloon from Soaring Adventures of America.

Breeden said the hot-air balloon appeals to all age groups.

Sun City Huntley’s Spring Consumer Showcase started about the same time the over 55 active adult community opened in 1999, said Bob Laird, advertising sales representative with Sun City. Back then, it was much smaller, he said.

Each time, it gets bigger and bigger.

The showcase, however, always has included all types of businesses, from financial planners to interior designers to golf cart distributors, he said.

There are 40 new first-time exhibitors this spring.

“It stays fresh because of the new people who come in,” Laird said. “It’s a great blend of returning exhibitors and new exhibitors.”

“Residents come out because the showcase is a way to have a personal connection” with vendors, Laird said.
