Jaycees Host Dinner to Help Huntley Woman Battling Cancer

The Huntley Jaycees are helping host a fundraising dinner on Saturday, Feb. 18, to help Linda Palma and her family.

Linda Palma was told she had six months to live.

Now, 16 months later, the Huntley businesswoman - and grandmother to 10 – is sill waging a courageous battle after being diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in September 2010.

Palma is a realtor with Ventura Associates, an active Huntley Chamber of Commerce member, a mother to three and a grandmother. She has waged her fight against the disease with the help of cutting-edge drugs, experimental treatments, a lot of support, a strong will and hope, according to her daughter, Tracy Palma.

As can be expected, however, the family’s medical bills are piling high.

To help Lin Palma and her family, the Huntley Jaycees are hosting the “Fight Like Lin” benefit dinner from 5 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Pinecrest Golf Course, 11220 Algonquin Rd., Huntley.

The pasta dinner will feature a silent auction, raffles, door prizes, a 50/50 drawing and live musical entertainment by the band, Rockus, according to the Fight Like Lin Facebook page.

Tickets are $15 person, or $25 per couple.

“It’s amazing how much the community has come together to help her, help me, and also help financially, mentally and physically,” Tracy Palma said.

Tracy has four children of her own and recently quit school and delayed plans to open her own business to care for her mother. She said there is “always someone that wants to cook or clean, even watch the kids, or run errands.”

“People can really come together, and change lives one family at a time,” Tracy Palma said.
