A month after George Carlson opened his limo business; he joined the Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce.
His membership has helped Carlson get the word out about Carlson Livery LLC at multi-chamber events and through referrals from the chamber, he said.
“The reception is just phenomenal here,” he said
Carlson Livery had a successful first year that began with two cars and ended with the company adding five vehicles and a 20-passenger bus. The success came with help and support from his family, employees and the chamber, Carlson said.
The Huntley Chamber has had its own success over the past 25 years, growing from an informal group of businesses to a thriving chamber.
The Huntley Village Board recognized the chamber and its efforts in helping businesses _ including small business owners like Carlson _ with a proclamation for National Chamber of Commerce Week.
This week’s events included a chamber meeting, a membership drive and culminate with Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce Day at the Huntley Farmers’ Market Saturday, Sept. 15.
The Huntley Farmers Market is held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Huntley’s downtown square on Main and Coral streets. Huntley Chamber members will have a mini expo with booths at the market. The public will get an opportunity to see the chamber’s offices located in the old Huntley village hall.
Earlier this year, the chamber celebrated its 25th anniversary. Chamber member JoAnn Jones, of, an insurance brokerage firm in downtown Huntley, was one of the original members. Her family has been in Huntley for five generations.
The chamber was started “by several local business people who just started brainstorming,” Jones said. Its mission, to encourage the expansion and retention of area businesses, remains the same but has been enhanced since its inception, she said.
“Huntley has so much to offer businesses,” Jones said. “One of those things is a very active chamber.”
