Huntley Dance Academy Offers Intensive Shake Your Booty Program

The Center Stage Dance Academy is offering a Summer Dance Intensive from August 13-14.

The Center Stage Dance Academy is offering a Summer Dance Intensive at the Huntley studio to give dancers ages 7 to 18 a taste of different dance styles they may not normally experience.

The two-day program, which runs August 13-14, features classes taught by highly skilled choreographers. The program will teach a variety of dance genres including ballet, contemporary, lyrical, jazz, tap, hip hop and modern.

“It is a really nice way for kids to get to work with different choreographers that they won’t usually dance with,” studio owner Debbie Nowotnik said.

Enrollment for the program is open to the public, and for all skill levels.

Nowotnik created the Summer Dance Intensive program last year. She said she started the program because it is more cost effective for families in the area to have a program this close to home. Often times, attending a program of this caliber requires travelling, which can be costly.

“It is more affordable because parents won’t have to pay travel expenses,” Nowotnik said.

Nowotnik expects a larger number of dancers to attend this year’s Intensive. Last year, about 40 dancers participated.

Students participating in the Intensive also have the chance to audition for Center Stage’s Envision Dance Company. Dancers who wish to audition for the group will be observed during the two-day intensive sessions. Actual auditions will follow on August 15-16 with dancers performing a short routine in groups of two, according to a press release.
