“It was an honor to receive this award,” said Tryon, who holds a degree in Environmental Science from Indiana State University. “As a legislator and the Republican spokesperson for the Environmental Health and the Environment and Energy committees, I have worked hard to keep important environmental issues in the forefront in Illinois.”

Tryon was specifically recognized for work he did on a water quality bill that brought large Illinois farming operations into compliance with Federal clean water regulations.

“We worked for two years on that bill and we came to an agreement regarding costs and implementation of new procedures to protect Illinois’ rivers and streams.”

The Illinois Environmental Council promotes environmental laws and policies and encourages decision makers in the private sector to go beyond minimum standards to establish new environmental best practices. The group was founded in 1975.
