Huntley's largest church plans events for Holy Week

 

St. Mary Catholic Church will be commemorating the holiest time of year for Christians with special Masses leading up to Easter Sunday:

The Huntley church, located at 10307 Dundee Road, is adding a 6 a.m. Mass on Easter Sunday and expect Masses will be crowded that day.

Thursday, March 28

Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7 p.m. During the service, there will be washing of the feet, which symbolizes how Catholics must live lives of humble service, according to the church's website.

Adoration after Mass will be held until midnight.

Friday, March 29-Good Friday

Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion and Death, noon

Shadow Stations of the Cross, by parish youth, 7 p.m. This is a live reannactment of the Stations of the Cross using a silhoutte technique. 

Saturday, March 30-Holy Saturday

Blessing of Easter food and baskets, 10 a.m.

Easter Vigil Mass, 7 p.m.

(The vigil fulfills Easter obligation)

Sunday, March 31-Easter Sunday

Masses at 6, 7:30, 9 and 10:30 a.m. and noon. There will be no 5:30 p.m. Mass.

The Roman Catholic Church continues to encourage people to “Come Back to the Catholic Church,” a campaign that began several years ago. St. Mary’s website offers assistance in taking the first steps to return to the church.
