Local Man Wins $1M Lottery Prize

Scott Chapman, a remodeling contractor, was presented the $1 million check on Thursday.

Scott Chapman of McHenry was presented with a $1 million check from the Illinois Lottery this past week from a winning Powerball ticket he bought on June 12 from a McHenry 7-Eleven, according to an Illinois Lottery press release.

Chapman said he plans to use the money to help pay for his sons' college expenses and take his wife on a tropical vacation, according to the news release. He also plans to keep his job as a remodeling contractor.

“Every time I buy a Lottery ticket I dream of winning, but I never really expect to win—so this is quite a shock,” Chapman said in the news release.

The 7-Eleven at  3808 West Elm Street in McHenry received a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. Chapman will receive $700,000 after federal and state taxes are factored into his winnings.
