Huntley's First Congregational Explores Taize Service

Huntley church celebrates Taize services every month, invites public to join.

Soft chanting echoed in the First Congregational Church of Huntley Thursday night as an hour-long Taize service began, the chimes filled the church as the service ended.

First Congregational, 11628 N. Church St., has been holding the special Taize services since January. Taize "is an ecumenical sung and silent participatory prayer service designed to achieve a contemplative state through music, song and silence," according to Light House Trails Research.

The church, which holds the service the third Thursday of every month, has developed a following. It is one of the few places in the region that offers a Taize services.
