Huntley Measures 7.8 Inches of Snow

Friday's storm quickly came and went, leaving behind a significant amount of snow in its path.

 

Exactly how much snow fell on Huntley during the Friday snow storm?

The village reported significantly higher totals than last week’s snowfall. Two different measurements from the Huntley area, taken at about 9 p.m. Friday night, gave the village a 7.8 inch snowfall accumulation, according to the National Weather Service in Chicago.

The snow fell continuously Friday afternoon and then moved eastward, leaving behind clear skies and cold temperatures.

The NWS reported snowfall totals of 5.4 inches at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, about 5.1 inches at Rockford Airport, and 4.8 inches in Cary at about 8 p.m.

Many area businesses, schools and offices closed early Friday because of the storm.

The Huntley Area Public Library shut its doors at 3:15 p.m. due to the snow and severe weather conditions, according to the library website.

Consolidated School District 158 cancelled all afterschool activities and meetings because of the weather, with the exception of the park district’s extended time care program.

Nearby school districts including Consolidated Unit School District 300 and Crystal Lake School District 47 also cancelled afterschool events.

For those who don’t like the snow, weather forecasts for Saturday call for partly cloudy skies and a high of 26 degrees. On Monday, rain showers and a high of 37 degrees are predicted.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-30s for the remainder of the week, according to weather.com.
