Huntley Bingo: Tonight's Game Offers Soup, Five Free Cards

Huntley Bingo weekly games raise money for cancer patients and families.

Marianne Ricciardi started the Huntley Bingo night at the American Legion Hall five years ago to help people, and their families, suffering from Ewing's Sarcoma.

Ricciardi’s son, Pat, was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma in 1999, a few weeks after his 22nd birthday. He fought the disease bravely for four years, his mother said.

“He was an engaging, handsome young man, high on life with a terrific personality,” Marianne Ricciardi said.

“He was a body builder and a semi-pro football player. Over the next almost four years, he handled his losing battle with grace, dignity and an overwhelming dose of sense of humor. Never wanting to give up or be held captive to this disease, his selflessness and positive attitude were inspirational.”

With no money to buy advertisements, the Huntley Bingo fundraising program has relied upon word-of-mouth and free publicity.

As an incentive to draw more players, Ricciardi added a free dinner to the Monday night bingo game once a month. Tonight’s “Wonderful Winter Supper” offers players hearty minestrone soup to keep them warm while hopefully winning!

There aren't many places in this economy where you can go for entertainment, have the chance to win cash prizes and eat for $10, Ricciardi said.
