Why go: Celebrate Arbor Day with tree-based crafts, including a leaf rubbing and a buckthorn souvenir.

Where/When: Prairieview Education Center, 212 Behan Road, Crystal Lake. Saturday, April 30 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why go: The family-friend activities include puppet shows, guided nature hikes, restoration service projects, games, crafts, storytelling and more. Plus kids who help out with the service project can earn an Earth Day 2011 Patch.

Where/When: , 320 S. Main St., Algonquin. Saturday, April 30 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.  

Why go: Enjoy bonding time with Dad while making a special, one-of-a-kind vase for mom.

Why go: Kids and adults alike can learn how to fish at Veteran Acres Pond from members of the Crystal Lake Park District and of the Crystal Lake Anglers. All equipment will be provided.
