Centegra Offers Free Health Lectures

A variety of topics to be discussed throughout April.

Community members are welcome to hear physicians speak about the prevention and treatment of heart disease, common athletic injuries, treatments for arthritic hands and caring for loved ones with dementia or Alzheimer’s during a series of free wellness lectures in April.

Space is limited and light refreshments will be served during the lectures. Register by calling 877-CENTEGRA (877-236-8347).

Preventing heart disease

Heart disease continues to be the leading cause of death in greater McHenry County. Learn prevention and treatment methods as well as the unique symptoms for women and men when suffering a heart attack. Dr. Mukaramullah Syed, an independent cardiologist on the medical staff at Centegra Health System will present, “Heart Attacks: Prevention, Symptoms and Treatment” from 6:30 to 7:30 pm Thursday, April 7 at Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center – Crystal Lake, 200 East Congress Parkway.

Protecting yourself from athletic injuries

Learn how to prevent and treat common athletic injuries from Dr. William Cox, an independent orthopedic surgeon on the medical staff at Centegra Health System and Bruce McElroy, a physical therapist with Centegra Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Clinic. Discover ways to protect bones, joints and muscles from common and preventable injuries during the lecture, “Common Athletic Injuries: Prevention and Treatment” from 6:30 to 7:30 pm Wednesday, April 13 at Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center–Crystal Lake, 200 East Congress Parkway.

Healing hands

Dr. Kelly Holtkamp, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in hand surgery, will share the latest ways to treat arthritis of the hand and wrist. Holtkamp will also share information about finger joint replacement surgery, a specialized procedure she performs at Centegra Health System. View samples of artificial finger joints and learn how this surgery can improve people’s lives by taking the pain out of everyday activities during her presentation, “Flex Your Fingers: Treatments for Arthritic Hands” from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 20 at Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center–Crystal Lake, 200 East Congress Parkway.

Caregivers help

Caring for loved ones with dementia or Alzheimer’s can be extremely stressful. Dr. Rex Nzeribe, an internal medicine physician with Centegra Primary Care who specializes in geriatric medicine, and a panel of team members will present “Caring for Loved Ones with Dementia or Alzheimer’s” 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21 from at Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center–Huntley, 10450 Algonquin Road. The team will discuss these conditions, the challenges caregivers face and the options that are available to ensure loved ones are receiving the best possible care.
