Animal House Shelter Seeks Donations

No kill shelter needs basic supplies to take care of animals.

The supplies are basic: paper towels, Clorox and garbage bags. But Animal House Shelter just doesn’t have enough money to the supplies.

The Huntley no-kill shelter is looking for donations of basic supplies or cash to help purchase the items.

AHS supervisor Amanda Bosshart said there is just not enough money for all the supplies they need. Here is a current list of urgent things they need:

  • Bleach
  • Paper towels
  • Clorox wipes
  • 55-gallon drum garbage bags

These are items the shelter is consistently going through, said

Natalia Lucchetti, office manager. For example, the shelter uses a lot of bleach. “We use quite a few gallons (of bleach) throughout the day just to do maintenance and sanitizing,” Lucchetti said.

Animal House Shelter houses 150 to 200 dogs and is always at capacity, she said. Whatever money they can save by not having to buy supplies goes to caring for the animals, she said.

The shelter opened in June 2002 and has rescued, rehabilitated and placed over 17,000 dogs and cats, to date, into new homes, according to its website. Animal House Shelter, Inc. rescues abused and neglected dogs and cats and rehabilitates them mentally and physically in order to place them with the best new family.

If you are interested in adopting a pet, Animal House Shelter will have a few adoptable pets visiting the Huntley Farmers’ Market at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3. The farmers’ market is held in Huntley Towne Square on Coral Street between Church and Woodstock streets.

To drop off donations, stop by the shelter at 13005 Ernesti Road in Huntley. For more information call 847-961-5541.
