Animal House Shelter PAWfest Fun Time for Pets, Humans

Animal House Shelter is opening its doors this weekend to host PAWfest for alumni, their owners and the public.

“It’s a nice chance to get exposure and get people back to the shelter,” said Bonnie Sutton, an Animal House adoption counselor. “We get to visit pets who’ve been adopted. It’s nice to see the (animals) we’ve cared so much about. It’s really cool and fun.”

PAWFest is one of the shelter’s fundraisers.

Animal House is caring for approximately 200 animals with some housed in the shelter and some living with foster families. The shelter is always looking for foster families, Sutton said.

“The more foster families we get, the more we can take in and give homes to,” Sutton said. “We get emails everyday (asking for help for animals) and they touch your heart because there is only so much we can do.”

The shelter is also always looking for donations, from old towels or blankets to food, toys and litter. Animal House animals “power through the toys really fast,” she said.

The no-kill shelter, located at 13005 Ernesti Road, Huntley, is offering lots of activities from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday:

• 50/50 raffles and gear
• Face painting and kids games
• Caricature artist
• Pet photographers
• Dunk tank
