Animal House Shelter (AHS) is among 40 shelters nationwide nominated for the contest sponsored by Purina and GOOD Worldwide LLC. The contest seeks to find the “most innovative animal shelter working to change the perception of shelter pets,” according to a release.

“AHS staff takes the time to work with each and every person. In order for them to continue with this work, they are in need of funds,” wrote the person who nominated the shelter. “I strongly believe that this shelter is your winner.”

Founded in 2002, AHS has adopted out 20,000 pets, according to the shelter’s nomination information. The no kill shelter “takes in and cares for abused, neglected and abandoned animals, especially those scheduled for euthanasia at other shelters,” the person wrote.

“We are defiantly going to be trying to spread the word,” Sutton said.

A $10,000 grant would help AHS develop more programs and expand its facilities to be able to take in more shelter animals, Sutton said.

The public can cast votes at Purina’s website. Voting ends at 12 p.m. PTS, Monday, Aug. 20.

The winner will be announced Aug. 21 and will receive the $10,000 grant. The person who submitted the nomination will win a year’s worth of pet food and a subscription to GOOD magazine.
