American Legion in Huntley Holds Annual Flag Day Ceremony

National Flag Day is June 14. The legion hosts its event at 7 p.m. that evening.

 

American Legion Post 673 will mark Flag Day, June 14, by holding a special ceremony at its headquarters, 11712 Coral St.

Flags that have been damaged will be properly disposed during the ceremony beginning at 7 p.m., Thursday.

Flag Day began in 1885 when a teacher placed a 38 star flag in a bottle on his desk and assigned essays on the flag and its significance, according to www.nationalflagday.com President Harry S. Truman signed an Act of Congress in 1949 designated the day as National Flag Day, according to the site.

The public is encouraged to attend Flag Day ceremonies.
